So, Google must be experimenting with AI in its search algorithms because they completely changed page 1 results for a bunch of different industries today. I’m talking drastically different search results with more emphasis on academic results and less emphasis on commercial results. Huge change for my industry. Scary stuff!

Think it's weeding out AI produced spam-type pages and surfacing more provably legit sources?

No. So far it’s providing more to government/propagandized results in my experience. The AI spam type pages don’t inherently rank well anyway. It requires a a lot of black hat shit behind the scenes. Basically even if it wasn’t AI produced - it’d still rank cause the person who’s behind it is driving it.

Interesting. I don't play in the SEO space but have done a ton of ASO, so I'm playing with different algos. The end goal is the same though, I get how changes affect perception, revenue, etc.

In my industry in particular where government leans on corporations to do things they want, it’s particularly obvious. Overnight search results went from showing predominantly vendors when someone searches for “buy Kratom” to now seeing FDA and other random government sites and rehab facilities. Definitely has the feeling of a manual intervention from Google.
