Not to mention they’re invasive to track and introduce an additional backend dependency that further delays page load time. Would rather just let users choose what they want with a setting.

I think my biggest issue is the overhead in having to remove them, which feels like rarely happens (similar to a TODO comment that never gets addressed). Might be a “skill issue” but feels like it just adds more complexity and dependencies (like you said) than it’s worth

100%. Also, they’re trivial to reverse-engineer by the Jane Manchun Wongs of the world, so you can’t count on them for hiding functionality haha
