Yeah that’s fair, and you’re right, it is what I’ve heard from a lot of other would be obsidian users haha. 

Re: switching from notion, it’s a breeze for the writing. Can’t speak too much on data bases/dashboards, since I just built my main ones in obsidian. But I actually made a video about how to import your Notion notes to obsidian, and it worked surprisingly well. Kept all of the linking and everything. 

Re: scrivener, it would probably depend on what the export capabilities are? You might be able to just export to markdown and then obsidian would read it no problem. 

Re: UI, there’s a “minimalist theme” that you can turn on, and then it gives you really easy interface to change fonts, colours, etc. 

But at the end of the day, it’s all about what works for you. Could also import to obsidian to create a markdown backup of notes from other systems, and see how it goes

Time for a thank you to @wanderloots.eth for the nudge he gave me last week to check out Obsidian again. I'm using it daily now.

I tried /obsidian many times before, loved it, and wanted to migrate... but my old habits were deeply ingrained. I struggled to get it integrated into my workflow.

But this time it clicked for me -- for both notes and long-form writing.

I successfully imported my entire Notion workspace (5+ years of work) into Obsidian in just a few clicks (as seen in Cal's video linked in the cast I quoted). 

Next I'll tackle exporting 13 years of my Scrivener files and importing into Obsidian. That will be a bigger project, but doable. 

@trigs and I also tried the Relay plugin for our collab work.

I'll take a look at relay! That sounds interesting. I've heard of it before but haven't tested it myself.

I just imported everything from years of reading and highlighting in Readwise Reader into Obsidian too. Love it.

It pulled in all the metadata and collected my highlights from each article into one easy-to-browse section.

Now I just have to figure out the Scrivener exporting --> importing and I'll be pretty much set. 

I still have to get used to working in markdown, and that might slow me down a bit until I retrain my habits. But my workflow is feeling more smooth and streamlined, and that's helping me focus.
