My current project is the product of 10 months of rumination and about 3 weeks of intermittent execution, and I'm definitely in favor of going slow. That's how the best ideas and approaches emerge. Going slow is why stews taste better than blended soup :)

Yeah, instant gratification is just not how creativity works for humans. We need time to let our ideas ripen.

Almost always, the work *has* to be messy for awhile if it's going to turn out to be worthy of sustained attention later on.

The validation that I'm not faulty because I can't just sit down and pump out the finished product on command is refreshing in a world of instant gratification.
