After building a decentralized / federated social media in the past that is now shut down, I’ve come to realize that self-hosting and personal backups of content is truly the most censorship resistant form of longevity. Even if tools use blockchain / p2p tech, it’s the intermediaries that are the Achilles heel.

Even keeping back ups is a headache cause none of our current options are infalible from hard drives to the clouds to print - everything can disappear by fire or solar flare, but I guess that’s the value of multiple back ups? 😟 Thanks for talking about this ☺️I agree with you 💯

My family’s lake cabin burnt down last summer and the most sentimental piece lost was the paper guest book full of memories and stories. I wrote a memoir and stored it on IPFS/OrbitDB but as soon as the node went down, it was unpinned and lost 😞

That’s horrible :/ I hope that we can find a way to make memories exist past oblivion ☀️ so no one ever has to lose something so precious
