The newly minted $TRUMP and $MELANIA memecoins have angered some digital currency supporters and sparked fresh accusations that the president is using his power for profit, AFP News reports. It is noted that such a cryptocurrency has no economic or transactional utility and is considered a purely speculative asset, the value of which buyers essentially bet on. Melania Trump launched the $MELANIA coin on the eve of her husband's inauguration, and Donald Trump launched the $TRUMP memecoin the day before. “These meme coins represent the worst of cryptocurrency,” said Maxine Waters, a Democratic congresswoman and member of the House Financial Services Committee.
