Realizing just now that most OG farcaster users really think $degen mainly benefitted from farcaster & it could have been any other token that went to a billion $ mcap. The origin story is ofc farcaster & the degen channel helped to bring some people together that wanted a fun memecoin and turn that fun memecoin into something more for farcaster and base. (Proxy, Payment token, etc) Jacek, wake, oxen AND other diehard holders & supportive degens (tipping, apps) made it happen and promoted base & farcaster signups like crazy for free. Ofc degen also profited from farcaster updates and devs supporting it - but paid quite a lot for it via tips, grants, fees. IMHO they’d deserve the biggest airdrop ever from farcaster for bringing in early users (when fc team didn’t care about growth). Ps: other Farcaster tokens like $higher would never have gotten to 10m+ without Degen setting the ceiling and Degen profits reinvested - which enabled core people to ultimately turn it into sth attractive 🙂

fc didnt care about growth is not true. i doubt people will say the same about degen helping fc more, if plans are measured in decades - which is exactly what the merkle team is focused on. degen is great, but it is not enough. not even nearly enough.

Ofc farcaster story is longer already but here’s how I see (base of) growth this year. - Dan onboarding first 15k people was great in fostering early community > marketing: some Twitter content (incl community), no paid push marketing; web 3 social interested people reached out & paid 5$ to get account - then, Degen took over the marketing > community promoted farcaster, paid for friends & randoms signups (I did that for 20+ people too) > token price was big marketing > Degen community paid for users & content via tips and socialfi apps (alfafrens, Drakula, pearl, bracket, card games..) via tips & grants (8 figures!) > people created accounts despite 5$ barrier, despite onboarding hurdles, despite bad channels/content - FC opened account creation to everyone, temporarily reduced 5$ friction, added some good product features earlier this year, some community people aside degens kept sharing stuff on tw but the team continues to focus product features (no good updates!), no growth. > much more needed
