Kids like doing fun things for fun. Reward those kids with a gold star and now fun isn't enough. They need the star. Adults operate similarly. The money is what makes it work, not play. Let's call X2Earn what it is: work.

I haven't worked for money as a driving motivation in the last 6 years. at all. it's pretty much all *play* or even purpose. But maybe I'm a kid still.

For some adults some amount of money is enough and they decouple from the old, toxic motivation towards something more fulfilling. Rare, but it can happen. Capitalism doesn't care much for that sort of self-fulfillment and doesn't select for it. If being happy is childish, hand me the pikachu costume.
