fwiw the bioengineering futures displayed in Dubai come from the west and western curation/creation. nothing really to do with Emirati culture per-se. Think that particular exhibit was a combination of atelier bruckner and tellart who I used to work for (might be wrong on the specific studios) The desolate wasteland you remark on is not how the locals see nature. It's how the west sees their land. The desert for them is akin to the ocean. I worked on the UAE world expo exhibit and spent a lot of time researching the meaning of the desert to help design the experience for the UAE Pavillion which featured an internal desert. the UAE, Qatar and now Saudi are becoming a bit of a playground for art+tech futures and they're offering a lot of funding to people like me to build art+tech experiences for them whether it's for world expo, neom, museum of the future or some other moonshot type project.
