The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has posted a video on Telegram of a large underground military base called “Emad-4.” The base seems to be extensively constructed underground to accommodate vehicles, aircraft, and long-range rockets. The implication of the video is that the facility would not be vulnerable to airstrikes or even larger munitions like bunker-busting bombs normally built to hit subsurface targets. The release of the video comes as Hezbollah and Israel remain stuck in a standoff over the conflict in Gaza. At present ceasefire talks are ongoing in the region although indications are that chances of success are remote.

The unveiling of such a fortified base by Hezbollah highlights the ongoing tensions in the region. It raises significant concerns about the potential for escalation, as both sides remain entrenched in their positions amidst fragile ceasefire talks.
