Thought this was an interesting Ted talk. TLDR; Climate change deniers correctly recognise that if climate change is real the developed world will require dramatic lifestyle changes, but would rather fall back on conspiratorial thinking to shield themselves from that reality. But many avowed proponents of climate action do not behave as if they believe in Climate Change and its near term consequences (i.e by flying, eating meat, etc). So in a way these people are in denial also. https://youtu.be/MHZMQLDr-OA?si=hTfWSPKiEzAo4gzp

I think it would be funny if in 2030 something were to happen which rapidly addresses climate change (if it is not adequately addressed by then, which it likely won’t)

That’s the dream scenario. But I think the point of the talk is that many are de facto counting on that. Betting the house on a Hail Mary pass. Perhaps not without reason given the technological wonders of our age. But I do wonder if the digitalisation of our lives and the speed with which software can spread, has given us a false impression of how quickly we can change the material systems of civilisation.

I mean, I suppose there may be some tech advances, like solar and Terraform Industries, that seems pretty cool, but… I was thinking something a bit more “old school” 😉 🚩
