when it comes to defi, your main concern is always smart contract risk. the longer a protocol is around and attracts larger amounts of capital, the bigger target it becomes for an exploit.

if there is no exploit for several years despite enormous incentive for a black hat, the protocol is effectively “safer” as a result. doesn’t mean it will never happen, but the likelihood goes down over time.

the other factor is whether a protocol has been stress-tested by bear market conditions and flash crashes in asset prices. newer protocols that have only seen bull market conditions are likely more fragile until proven resilient.

tldr; if you are parking stables with size, you want the most lindy and battle-tested protocol possible. right now that’s aave, maybe compound.

In DeFi, time = trust. The longer a protocol survives without exploits, the stronger it gets.
