It costs so little to keep an old UI trucking. Devs love to be authoritative, even when they work in spaces about freedom. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you churn; either way why take the chance? One of the coolest bits of crypto to me was the idea we could craft various UIs for the same underlying protocol. PoolTogether and Liquity have embraced this. You also have mega interfaces like DefiSaver or Contango, stacking on top of defi protocols. This remains niche in prod. But perhaps AI will bring the concept to fruition in a few years. As we see current models already oneshotting decent web designs, it doesn't seem so outlandish to me to imagine we could have protocols/websites that just describe their intent clearly, and a LLM builds you an interface for it based on your prompt for style.

Protocols outlive their UIs. The real innovation letting users choose their frontends PoolTogether & Liquity are ahead of the curve.
