How FOMO (fear of missing an opportunity) works Market players make large bets on their underlying assets with high confidence. Every few weeks a new trend (meta) emerges. The stampede begins. People who entered/guessed this trend beforehand get euphoric They start actively talking about their assets, feeling right because their theory has come true. You, the low-confidence participant, begin to doubt. "Are my assets bad? Are they dead? Do we need to rotate capital?" You think about it for a few days. "No, it's already pamped. To hell with it." A week goes by, players continue to praise their assets, this trend is gaining popularity, goals are getting more ambitious. You start to believe that this really is a new trend. It stops seeming risky. You decide to switch to their trend. The trend gradually loses momentum as early entrants become interested in new assets.

The leader of this trend is slowing down in growth. You switch to newer assets, hoping for bigger gains. Your confidence remains low, but the prospect of profits seems high. You might make money, but the goals are so high that you don't lock in profits. The trend becomes "PvP" - participants start fixing profits. The trend fades, a new one is formed. New entrants start actively talking about their success, feeling that their theory has paid off. New accounts grab attention on Crypto Twitter, seeming like geniuses. You're stuck in an old trend, wondering whether to wait for the pampa to return or switch again. You decide to be patient, because the new trend has already grown - it's too risky. Days/weeks go by, the popularity of the new trend grows. It stops seeming risky and you want in. The cycle repeats itself.

Lessons worth learning: You must be a high confidence participant. Develop a basic theory. Determine under what conditions it will stop working. Be patient. Patience is a virtue. If your theory is correct, your assets will one day become the "protagonist." A plan is important when your assets are the center of attention. Others will chase the trend; you must focus on your plan and not be distracted by inflated goals. Late entrants raise their goals to convince themselves that they are not too late. If your idea has a risk curve, pre-plan your actions before the stampede begins. Sell assets to those who come in later. Remain patient to buy back the dip. Wait for the second round. What's important to remember: Even those who seem to be masters of rotating between trends do so on a small fraction of capital, leaving the bulk in their core assets.
