I legit did USD -> BTC -> CAD last month because the spread was much tighter than the USD -> CAD forex offer and I already had money in a crypto brokerage lol.

To be fair, the forex offer was from my offramp bank, so it's nothing special (vs something like Wise which is fairly good), and market pressure between USD and CAD order books for BTC might have been particularly favourable that day (I didn't check).
