1000% agree and think this is similar to musicians relying on excessive production to compensate for weak lyrics

Generally, a song can only be as good as its harmony, melody, rhythm and lyrics. However, since the Beatles, it's fair to say that production and recording techniques also play a big role in making a song great. My thoughts are - production can make a good song great, but can also act as a crutch if the product underneath is not up to standard. This is a very difficult thing, that producers and artists will spend decades figuring out - including myself.

Weak lyrics, weak songwriting chops. Same thing happened with the rise of digital recording, everyone thought itβd democratize recording music but instead it just ruined a craft.
