I have a theory that meta / instagram algorithm is now creating VERY hard bubbles of whichever side you’re on in the US political divide. I don’t normally post political things there, but when I post ONE story (about Rumeysa Ozturk) among other normal cute photos, not one of my friends from the other side saw any of my stories. And I’d say they’re pretty close friends who usually see my stories. So does that mean the algorithm is strongly suggesting friends stories and content that only AGREE with their views? Digital bubbles and confirmation bias is REAL. How can algorithms be made to combat this problem while also displaying interesting relevant content to users?

I talk about confirmation bias often... Hopefully that's not an intentional segregation of the algo... Who knows... I like it here because I've never had that issue (at least I don't think)

I'm sure the different platforms are continuously tweaking their algorithms to maximize engagement. Personally I'm confident the YouTube algorithm does deliberately show content from the other side to induce engagement through conflict... but Meta / Instagram has tried to discourage political content entirely (they've said that about Threads and I assume that continues into Instagram) and keep people in their bubbles to keep everything light and breezy. I'm sure they could easily tweak their algorithm to reduce digital bubbles and confirmation bias, but I guess they've figured out it's more profitable for them not to.
