I wore a continuous glucose monitor for 2 weeks that allowed me to observe my glycaemic response to different foods, stressors and exercise in realtime. I’m not a (pre)diabetic. This was very insightful and I was a bit sad to pull it off after 2 weeks.

Stress creates a cortisol, adrenaline and glucagon peak which stimulate glucose formation in the liver (gluconeogenesis) while inhibiting glucose utilization in the adipose tissue and skeletal muscle through insulin resistance. So you basically see glucose rise and taking a while to normalize.

High intensity exercise (anaerobic) creates a massive glucose peak (through gluconeogenesis), but it’s of the good type because it increases insulin sensitivity for a long period after the exercise. You basically help to create a large reservoir in the skeletal muscle to drive glucose into after meals.
