There’s no web3 advantage without customer data. The tech doesn’t matter. Culture doesn’t matter. Community doesn’t matter. Crypto doesn’t matter. Innovation doesn’t matter. Decentralization doesn’t matter. The future is built on customer data. Incumbents have it. While web3 startups have hope, hype, and assumptions. Understanding the customer has never been more important.

“But what about privacy and trust? Isn’t that important to the customer? Our company solves for that” Are you sure about that? Only if privacy and trust are highly important, urgent, and desirable enough for the customer to solve! if so, what form does it take in their mind? Privacy and trust can mean different things to different people on a sliding scale of importance. The customer also needs to have enough money to spend on addressing the problem. Lots of times customers care but don’t have the money to spend on the problem. Or the solution is positioned in a weak way against their budget. The only way to find out is by deeply understanding the customer — their behaviors, needs, desires, pains, and dreams.
