assuming that it is fully self-regulating towards common good. we may need more adjudication by environmental selection, maybe even "laissez-faire frontier" to guarantee no extinction event. better safe than sorry.

yeah, but don't forget evolutionary traps (like hardwood-maximizing to a canopy that forces plants to become carnivorous)
