It seems like Trump is genuinely trying to destroy the Canadian economy and might even be serious that the goal is forcibly annexing Canada. He said he’s “not expecting any concessions”(?) and now wants to “get rid of that artificially drawn” border between the two countries. These tariffs are predicated on a nonexistent fentanyl influx from Canada to the U.S. People I know in Ottawa are genuinely alarmed and think this is for real.

Agreed My far flung idea that has a very small but non zero chance of occurring Trump is going to “support” Mexico militarily to take out the cartels and then use that as a precursor to completely manage the Canadian US and Canadian international border. At that point Canadians will either have to allow it and essentially give up sovereignty or fire on American soldiers - something no one wants. He just needs to convince half the us population that Canada is responsible for the fentynal problem - which it isn’t
