but moreover DEGENs legacy isn’t just about price it helped onboard 500,000+ users to a new platform it also helped to launch dozens (hundred?) apps and new clients we all want token to go up, but Degen has contributed more than just financial gain/losses

definitely! i'm obviously trolling about NgU. but i do recognize its long-term effect to the ecosystem, but i always felt that tipping was a tactical marketing technique more than an innovation. for context about where my bias is coming from: i was in mktg for a long time and cynical doesn't even begin to explain how i feel about growth hacking/hackers. there's nothing altruistic or empathetic about it. it mostly dehumanizes users/customers/people into 1's and 0's. it's short term impact can have negative long-term effects if it onboards the wrong type of people.

that’s interesting I see it differently. Tipping opens up a new economic paradigm that lets us more away from relying on ads… which means companies don’t need to harvest data… which increases privacy it lets influencers make money directly and platforms to get a % of that influencers are no longer shock jocks since eyeballs aren’t the metric… ppl actually paying is the metric. DEGEN was the first platform wide tipping infrastructure and culture so if we can now move behavior to be tipping on chain (existing with tn100x or BTC on nostr) and allow for easy conversion into say USDC we can remove the most toxic parts of trad social media this is what DEGEN opened for us. Proof that ppl will micro tip for content and that creators will work for tips.

I’m all for tipping, but I’d rather be tipped in valuable currencies like ETH, BTC, USDC, or even USD—not in free or speculative tokens like $DEGEN. Why add the extra layer? Tipping with speculative tokens feels like a short-term, soulless transaction that devalues the marketplace of ideas and doesn’t genuinely support creators in the long run. Let’s keep it real and meaningful.

With instant swaps Degen is the same as anything else. Doesn’t matter since it can be withdrawn in usdc for free. some chains don’t optimize for fees eg you can’t micro tip eth… we can thank base for near zero fees with that said the layer is for culture really imo and possibly dev work around it at the end of the day, Degen culture promoted tipping where usdc (or eth) didn’t where else is internet tipping prevalent? I’ve never seen it in a meaningful platform wide way (except in cam girls but unfortunately I don’t know anything about that. My guess is the platform fees are probably very high and the trad fi rails make the platform too sticky
