For the second option, I don’t think this would change the incentives for the creator? It would just change the incentives for the reader - they would want to subscribe to get future upside.

My concern with this, is that it could end up similar to the godawful monetized rewards program on X. As people would be incentivised to churn out content and farm engagement / subscriptions / NFT buys

Glad to hear you're considering rewards, and thanks for tagging me. I'm not keen on either of the options as presented above, but need time to ponder and write a bit before I can explain why. (Writing is how I think these things through!)
