I have an M1 chip iPad Pro, but haven't used it for artistic things.

My expectations when I bought it were that it could be a more portable & touchscreen version of my MacBook, but it makes a pretty poor laptop replacement

Okay, one final question:
Did you acquire the appropriate Apple keyboard accessory with the touchpad for your model?
