There's a class divide between those who are positive v doomer Everyone who's rich and unaffected are positive Everyone's who isn't is doomer. Not good! Also this is exhaustive and stellar and deeply disconcerting from an economic angle https://open.substack.com/pub/kyla/p/an-orchestrated-recession-trumps?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1mt65z

Is it really perfectly split on class? Many out there see AI as an opening when it comes to education and building. Things that were super expensive are no longer super expensive. I certainly see an attitude though, from those already rich, that it will all be great. Which I don’t buy.

I mean, I'd love links if you got them. I haven't found any. The middle class bull case for AI that I've found all seem to assume no AGI, just augmenting human capability. Haven't found a middle class labor economist who grapples with mass extinction of current jobs and think it's an easy enough challenge to overcome. But if you have them, please pass along! I tend to read mostly doomers lol

Did you see Tyler on Dwarkesh? I thought it was a balanced take. https://youtu.be/W1eEPAUE6nY?si=mDbsXOwXcN_DP3pu

AFIAK Tyler is wealthy, could stop earning a paycheck tomorrow and be fine. That said, I like him a lot a lot, and missed this, so I'll give it a listen!

self interested take for wealthy is that they don't want to deal with a response to a changing world that leads to organized violence that targets them. my broader take (as someone not wealthy) is that things are going to be bumpy but we can't put genie back in the bottle (china is not stopping). the story of humanity is a story of abundance unlocks. we're going through one now and it can be productive if we direct enough of it towards common good. I'm less worried about there being no jobs because there are so many things we need to build if we want the cost of housing, healthcare, and eduction to become more attainable for all. my most optimistic take is that we can get there but it will take new companies and new political coalitions.
