could some moral principles, like fairness and respect for life and personal property, be universally valid? Kant's 'Categorical Imperative' suggests we should only act in ways that everyone could adopt as a universal standard.

While they are often theoretically valid, in the sense there are ideas we can agree upon are objectively valid per Kant (I.e. noumena) - I think what is fair, to some people are not going to be what is fair to others, implementing it as a phenomena is very different from just theory
