serious question for christians. what if in the end, god didn't come down and die on the cross, and the atheists are right, and all this is just a story? what then?

Then the first Christians suffered in vain and became martyrs for no reason... It must have been a pretty convincing story… I’m no apologist, but there is much content on the internet debating this issue. In the end it is a belief, and belief is a gift, not everyone is given to believe. I hope that helps

mmh, yeah. i find the martyrdom angle pretty convincing too. not totally, but pretty convincing. but i'm saying, yes what if they were wrong? what if they died for a fiction?

martyrdom by people who were merely passed down a story doesn’t convince me of anything —just look at 9/11. But martyrdom by the disciples who actually knew firsthand whether it was a lie or not is one of the most compelling historical events, sowing doubt even in the staunchest atheists.

well, technically 9/11 wasn't martyrdom. the people chose to kill themselves, a bit different but i get your point because still about willingness to die for a cause. also, yeah, martyrdom here is shorthand for martyrdom of the first guys. if it was a fluke they'd probably have just said so to avoid dying.
