Today, we need to talk about "Legacy". I'm incredibly proud of the nearly 50 mints this artwork has received, and yesterday, the story behind it got an update.
Back in 1999, Brazil had two Oscar nominations for the film Central do Brasil. As always, it was a huge celebration, and we all gathered around the TV, ready to witness history. Our most cherished actress, Fernanda Montenegro, was nominated for Best Actress, and we truly believed she had a shot. Flags in hand, we were beyond excited to see Brazil in the spotlight for something other than football.
But Fernanda lost to Gwyneth Paltrow.
It was a tough blow. Of course, we were furious, called it a robbery, bashed the Academy, business as usual.
Now, fast forward to 2024. Once again, Brazil had a film and an actress nominated for the Oscars, AND the Golden Globe. And not just any actress! Fernanda Torres, the daughter of Fernanda Montenegro!
