What were the reasons behind the decisions? What are the lessons?

Yeah, infra expenses are high and very few people are willing to pay!

alertcaster was a side project built when there were few FC users or apps

it was my contribution to one of the highest signal/noise ratio communities i've ever been part of

but, just because people find flights valuable doesn't mean running an airline is a good business.

there are no examples of great web1 or web2 alerts businesses. And in some ways web3 is even worse. there are no barriers to entry and switching alert providers is trivial

As the Farcaster network has grown, the costs to operate the service are growing at an increasing rate, but the number of users willing to pay to cover the costs is not.
