I'm at a Solana meetup to get the vibe. Solana folks believe that Solana is more decentralized. Their argument is Base sequencer is centralized and the same for pretty much any other L2. Is there some information on this? Cc: @chaskin.eth

I’m busy this weekend but will get back to this asap TLDR you can have centralized sequencer on a rollup because it inherits the security and censorship resistance of the L1: You always have the ability to exit back to L1 if sequencer disappears, prevents invalid state transitions (stealing your coins) via proofs (zk and/or optimistic) and you can inherit the censorship resistance of L1 because you can use L1 to force a transaction on the rollup

Next time someone argues something is more centralized, ask them to explain the threat model they're concerned about. Or explain what they're concerned about without using the word centralized. Most people are just using it based on vibes ("this feels more clustered around a center").

I'd argue that that's a stated preference, and if you actually dig into why, they don't really give a shit that it's decentralized or not. The revealed preference is often related to liquidity and mindshare for shitcoins - the chain is fast and cheap, that's about it.
