After working on a documentary, I have much more empathy for creative decisions on them, similar to more empathy after working on a consumer application

Questions like why didn't this topic/scene get included? Trying to fit *years* of filming into ~90 min is inevitably going to have many scenes cut out, audience testing resulted in confusion / not resonating, didn't add much to storyline, etc 

Similar to why don't you add this feature? Need to keep the product simple, user feedback resulted in confusion, doesn't move the needle, etc

Next question often: why don't you make a series or longer movie? Each 10 min of finished footage is about 1 month of editing work, our film cost $2m+ to make, not that straightforward

Similar to why don't you just hire more people to add that feature? Requires more funding = fundraising and all that comes with it, more distraction / less focus, etc
