America's First Police Car was produced in Dayton, Ohio in 1899. The electric-powered wagon topped out at 18 mph and had a range of 30 miles before the battery ran out. It cost $2400, the equivalent of over $90k today, and was equipped with electric lights, gongs and a stretcher. Though the patrol car was less expensive to maintain than a team of horses to pull a wagon to do the same job. In 1900, it was swept up in a race riot and thrown in the Erie Canal. It was recovered and operated for several more years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Fowler_Loomis [inventor Frank Fowler Loomis standing with the "Paddy Wagon"]
