The roadmap is working. Farcaster wouldn't be possible without L2s. Users would have to pay $25 to $300 (during bull markets) just in gas to create a new FID onchain, and without FIDs, users couldn't own their social graph and there would be no Farcaster. Rome wasn't built in a day

Imagine how better it will even get when the Dencun update will go live on mainnet. However, it's always going to be a "going in circles" as more adoption will increase again L2 onchain tx and then we will need to wait for another major Ethereum update to lower fees once again, and so on.
