One time I got scammed for all my money in RuneScape:

One person was looking to sell an item for 10
Another person was looking to buy that same item for 100

I figured I could quickly flip those items, so I bought for 10. As soon as I bought it, the other buyer disappeared. 

I looked up that item afterwards and realized that item is completely worthless.

I still think about that after like 20 years
