What we think is weird is usually a secret stand-in for other people’s expectations! It’s not just “be as weird as you can,” but if you have a lot of ‘equally’ good options and one is weird, that’s the most honest one because it has to below in past the silent jury in your head. Thank you!

Once in 6th grade my friend and I were talking to two girls. 

He was . . . new at it. 

At one awkward pause, he gave a short speech about his favorite fighter jets. 

One girl dismissively said, “that’s random.”

He said, “it’s not random if we keep talking about fighter jets.”

Moral: KEEP being weird.

Beautiful. Now if I only had a hack for dealing with the self-conscious regret that often comes after sharing my weirdness with someone who doesn’t quite see the value 😅
