for me this was finding my crew of fellow abstract 3d artists on deviantart back in the day. brings back wonderful memories.

AOL chat rooms, that was a long time ago! I think Discord would be the closest to that experience now. I honestly do not know if it would be the same as far as security goes. I definitely found my people multiple times over the years as the internet has evolved.

Webrings — I came across one about David Lynch and Twin Peaks and was amazed that so many people had a fascination for it that equaled mine at the time. I was too nervous back then to go into real-time conversations with other people like in chats. But enjoying carefully collected and curated content from like-minded people was so fulfilling. Today that might've been enjoying an nft collection or reading posts without interacting 😊

Dang can’t quote or cast but…. The great digg migration solidified Reddits early prowess for pure entertainment and community vibes. It has its glimmers and shards of greatness from time to time still…but that early energy/creativity/in-jokes/humor was pretty unparalleled.
