How do you answer the question βWhere are you from?β As an immigrant who lived in a few countries I find it quite confusing. I assume that the person wants to quickly understand my language/cultural background, so go with βIβm originally from β¦, lived in A, B, C and now I live in X.β

is this conversation happening online or in person? that would make a difference to me online: on call, meet, zoom, etc. i assume it is in most cases to know the timezone and i mention that in person: i don't hear this question much actually, probably because i don't go to conferences and only meet people in my city

on rare occasions in person, my answer would probably be the same: i live in mumbai; if asked, i will mention which part of it i don't take it as a cultural/language thing
