disaster resistance, censorship resistance (therefore potential for anti-authoritarian use), secure/verifiable p2p communication, etc. I'm starting to take the view that most good tech innovation is defense tech.

defense tech is often the purview of nation states and even so called liberal democracies have been known to use such tech against their own people e.g NSA spying https://www.eff.org/nsa-spying/timeline web3—if done right—enables individual liberty, autonomy, and agency. see @christophera's blockchaincommons.com
