Ask Warpcasters: Should cache coordinates be hidden behind paywalls, or should there be a free platform for everyone to enjoy and discover them? I just discovered that many caches in Berlin are locked behind a paywall by a major Web2 player in the field. What are your thoughts? I'm just stuck 😶

Polishing a product to make it usable is the most challenging part. Implementing the technical features is the easiest. Can anyone else relate? It took me almost an additional week to bring our 'finished' product, Pdf Weaver, to the usable stage.

Exploring the convergence of geocaching and Web3 to enhance the traditional geocaching experience. For instance, I imagine a cache becoming a tangible asset on the blockchain, complete with a permanent owner. Yet, still linked to the real-world adventure, with Web3 adding a meta layer to enhances physical explorations.

However, we must address the funding challenge for on-chain transactions. Currently, many are reluctant to pay for social media services, as major centralized platforms appear to offer them for free. Most don't realize is that they're actually paying with their privacy and are being exposed to manipulated content.

GeoCaching Web3 idea: I imagine a cache that enables minting a unique, possibly limited NFT. Owning this NFT could unlock the ability to discover and access exclusive "mystery" caches. Centralized regulation conflicts with the essence of decentralized, censorship-free platforms. Though maybe well-intentioned by the government, it's a step back. In my opinion we should focus on advancing through collective efforts and innovative thinking as we have done in past evolving web3 tech.

It's certainly an insightful and detailed read, offering plenty of depth. Thanks for pointing to it. However, it somewhat implies, without explicitly stating, that centralized regulations are necessary for crypto. In contrast, I believe we should progress towards decentralized regulations built upon crypto mechanisms.

We know of one geocaching crypto app. It's MetaTrail you can read about here https://www.cryptng.com and try out the alpha here https://MetaTrail.app . Though there is currently a bug related to the try out button we will fix today. All feedback is appreciated. It's an alpha and a lot of things are still in the works.
