Can anyone explain Urbit to me? Stumbled across it recently and it looks interesting, but honestly I don't understand it even after reading through the website. I can see its an operating system, but that's about as far as I've got

Urbit is a virtual machine that runs on top of your base OS (eg Linux), which uses P2P networking to connect with other machines running Urbit. Supposedly, this enables extra security, control, etc.

It's also pretty problematic. When I investigated, it seems to be about replacing an existing hierarchy of domination and rent extraction with a new one - where the Urbit ID owners accrue value. Urbit uses Ethereum, but I'd very much hesitate before saying it's values are Ethereum-aligned.

Yeah, the website talked about being a new operating system which seems intriguing but I really couldn't see what it's being used for and why its actually better. Or if you need to be a developer to actually know how to use it. Thanks for the response.
