I felt like the “Lars von Triers hadn’t been to America” bit was interesting. It made me think of Orientalism and if there is a sort of good/bad aspect to this when your canvas is a global power. And it made me wonder if more abstraction would be more powerful (social messages hidden in comic books for example).

His focus wouldn’t work with that - I actually started thinking of the efficacy of Lars von Triers work for a bit and missed a chunk of the interview. When he said 500 the first time I didn’t really hear it but then he said 5000 pieces and that woke me up … and then he switched back to 500.
