I used to think venture investing is 80% an intellectual test, 20% emotional test. Now I’d say it’s the reverse. I’d say the same about my experiences as a startup founder. Probably true of many other long-term activities.

What’s the emotional part for the investor? Falling in love too soon or waiting too long to write off?

@cdixon.eth will we ever see a hunch client on top of Farcaster protocol? Given the slew of new channels, I’d love a recommendation engine that surfaces up high-quality FC signal. Feels like an opportunity… NS

How much of this is due to becoming skilled at investing / founder-ing? I think about this a lot. In going from low-skill to high-skill in a thing, I pay little attention to the emotional side. But going from high skill to expert is all about managing emotions.

For sure, especially when it comes to conviction bets on new trends or radical technologies before others have understood or even spotted them. At the same time, you might be right about the trend/tech/goal but wrong about the timing/team/path, so still important to reign over emotions and calibrate them accordingly.

This is accurate. It’s this intersect of emotion and science that great things happen.

I was pretty shocked to see a lot of startups fail due to emotional reasons rather than failure in the market
