It took a long time, a dedicated effort and moving to a place where things where less convenient to buy for me to break out of the consumerism mindset. It’s been transformative.

I’ve started reading A LOT more this year. It was an unintentional habit but I’ve formed it and I love it and it’s been a while since I’ve had a real good reading habit. 

So partially I want to reward and motivate myself but mostly because I’ve been doing it on a really old kindle and the slowness sometimes makes me not pick it up. Watching too many reviews, the latest kindle paperwhite looks really responsive.

Respect for breaking free from consumerism But tell me why the exception for a Kindle Paperwhite?

Totally. I use an Oasis Gen10 from 2019. All those quality of life things are nice. The speed of my current kindle kill’s me and the new paper whites look snappy.

I also have a scribe but it’s too big to just want to carry around and read on all the time.

I’ve had a Kindle since the very first one and I adore adore the new paper whites, especially because you can change the warmth of the light so you can read in bright sunlight or in pitch black darkness very very comfortably.  anything that makes your reading experience easier and gets you to get off of a distracting device and focus on device that’s not gonna interrupt you is worth it’s wait in gold.

I hadn’t considered it but maybe. Tech is pretty modern here but definitely you see a lot of physical things that are older but were well built and still 100% solve their use case.

I think I’m more recently fixated on 90’s technology because having been there it “feels” like we are in that same time period in crypto even if most of the crypto community feels like they are impatiently waiting for the iPhone moment.
