Undecided if I'll hit publish. Represents my current thinking on Zora without going into the heady attention market stuff. Also I'm referencing Zora here but its from conversations with many of the platforms.

Few things: 1. Real founders don't launch their tokens on pump fun why would real artists want to denominate their work in tokens? I agree liquidity can be more sustainable but seems like the wrong target market 2. I keep hearing that artists are making more money on Zora now than ever yet haven't met a single artists who has experienced this to be the case 3. Artists don't rely on hype cycles, they just make work people like. Zora is reliant on the hype cycles for growth. To say this is to benefit artists, rather than Zora is silly 4. Collector mindset is very real in both traditional spaces and modern ones, if the TAM isn't big enough for Zora I understand the need to iterate but why you would you also sunset a platform people still want to use and build on top of today?

I agree on the financial side (which is the main topic that's debated rn). I've always been a fan of Zora and the thing that drives me the most today is: what's the positioning in terms of content? The fact that everything can fit in the platform is fun but also super confusing. I open my feed and I see random photos, beautiful paintings, product announcements, amazing stars cc @richardleighton. Not to say any of these is wrong but it's messy and I can't tell anyone "here's the type of thing you'll find on Zora". I'm reading the Cold Start Problem book these days and the story of Twitch is interesting in this regard - they were a generalist justin.tv platform and reached a growth ceiling at some point. That's only when they created a new platform only focused on video game that it took off: people were clearer (both creators and users) about what they could find on the platform. That could be an interesting move from Zora (don't know which topic would be better suited though). cc @zaak @jacob

Love this ⌐◨-◨ at same time having a hard time figuring out the flow for a song or piece of media that is a collaboration work. Splits was easy to use for the last nft version of Zora, pretty clear who contributed what, how do you guys suggest we explore this flow now @jacob do we need to increase the buy on the coin mint and manually share tokens with the collective collaborator of a song or video? Excited to figure out this flow any gigabrain guidance appreciated

Great post. The goal is the same. We're trying to put the most powerful forms of crypto in the hands of creators. p.s. coin this?

social currency becomes comes money like literally money to use, lend, spend, borrow if we build it right, much of this will be money not speculative pump dump, but daily currency

chris, is the content associated with the erc-20s any more or less onchain or decentralized than the nfts that had been launched via the old zora? and should that matter?

that's a good take, but i don't think i have a clear answer to whether scarcity-driven value is fragile and not sustainable, considering the volumes nft collections do

Not so new and not very sustainable. A coin was created from the highest Zora sale to date https://dexscreener.com/ethereum/0x801c868ce08fb5b396e6911eac351beb259d386c I'm amazed by the energy deployed to save Zora tbh. Anyway 👀 https://warpcast.com/konohime.eth/0x4a05bc45

It’s questionable whether crypto’s liquidity-driven value is truly sustainable -- just take a look at memecoins & alts Maybe this time will be different

Totally agree that tools have to evolve with markets. The shift to Erc-20 seems like a natural progression for creators looking for more sustainable income streams
