The house I’m staying in only has a French Press, so I am pressing and it’s pretty great coffee but… Does a French press always leave some coffee sludge in the cup? Are my beans ground too fine? Do you use a French press daily?

I always use french press and grind the beans extra course, but there can still be a little grounds in the last cup, but not sludge.

In my experience, anything without a paper filter will let through some sediment - I've got a filterless pour over (a Pureover) that always lets some grains through. French press does similar. I've just learned to not drink the last fraction of coffee in my cup.

You will get some fines in your cup with a French press, but your grind may also be too fine. You’re supposed to use a coarse grind with a French press.

The coffee from my French press always tastes good, but it does leave a little sand or grit in my cup, but it’s nothing major….I don’t think there should be sludge left over though lol.

same for me, been using a french press everyday since i arrived here. the 'sludge' should stay in the press, though. maybe just do a bit more water so it fills your cup yet a small amount stays in the press, that would make it.

There may be a little. It shouldn’t be a sludge.

Your coffee sounds like it's ground for espresso... The standard when buying from a store (in n. America anyways) If you can get it ground somewhere, ask them for a French press grind (coarser). Some grains get through usually, but shouldn't be a sludge.
