The Luddite tendencies on the left are very frustrating. I agree that AI is an energy-intensive centralizing force contributing to even wider inequality, but not using it is giving away its power to the enemy.

Many of the valid complaints are specific to centralized AI, especially when it comes to resource hoarding/waste, pollution, use of data, weaponization, etc.. The problem is capitalism, not AI.

As for IP, I don't believe the system can work in the digital age. We could find another way of rewarding artists (eg creator royalties) but it requires rebuilding from scratch the art industry.

This is a big topic for me right now. How do we square this? The recent Studio Ghibli-ified images are a great example. Everyone I show loves the output, but the ethics of using the IP without compensation are a problem.

But you hit the nail on the head regarding ceding power to the enemy if we choose to just not use these tools. They are too powerful, and potentially too useful for the causes the left cares about, to simply not use them.
