I guess one upside of this kind of image generation is there’s no risk of people believing it’s real photography. Though I’m sure someone will eventually claim these are shots from some upcoming Ghibli film

Yeah realism is not an issue here. It is interesting though that what went viral was Ghibli specifically and not anime in a generic way. I think it's because it's a nice synthesis of eastern and western aesthetics.
