Introduction to Vinyl | How to distinguish the authenticity of vinyl 01 Practical knowledge!
In the previous issues, we introduced some little-known facts about vinyl records, and many vinyl friends also raised some interesting questions. So today, let’s talk about my personal method of distinguishing the authenticity of vinyl records.
Check the surface of the record
Normal vinyl records basically use light to shine obliquely, and you can see the marks on the record. Second-hand records basically have some tiny scratches, some of which will not affect the playback, because sometimes after the record ends, there will be a few seconds when the needle will not automatically lift, which may cause some scratches. Some scratches may also be caused by damage to the tonearm. This kind of scratch is basically invisible without light. If the scratches or dirt can be seen by the naked eye, you should pay attention to it. The dirt may be cleaned, but the scratches are permanent. 0 reply

Introduction to Vinyl | How to distinguish the authenticity of vinyl records 02
Let's talk about how I personally distinguish the authenticity of vinyl records.
2. Record cover
The record cover is also a basis for judging authenticity. In addition to checking the record company, you should also check the preservation of the cover when you get the vinyl, except for new records. For example, I like to collect second-hand old Hong Kong and Taiwan records, so I pay attention to the degree of damage to the cover. For second-hand records, the better the cover is preserved, the higher the collection value, but the problem of fake cover cannot be ruled out. Of course, this rarely happens with old records, or I may be lucky and have not encountered it. The cover will generally decay and age over time, but this degree of decay and artificial aging are very obvious. 0 reply

Introduction to Vinyl | How to distinguish the authenticity of vinyl records | 01
In the previous issues, we introduced some little-known facts about vinyl records, and many vinyl lovers also raised some interesting questions. So today, let’s talk about how I personally distinguish the authenticity of vinyl records.
1. Record company
A regular disc will be printed with the manufacturer, distribution company, etc. These companies will also print their own unique serial number or serial code on the cover of the record. You can also check on the official website of the record company. Basically, you can find it. However, some older record companies, such as PolyGram, a record company from the last century, have very few fake vinyl records. 0 reply

Introduction to Vinyl | Must-know Trivia about Vinyl | 01
What are the ways to buy vinyl?
Common ways to buy vinyl records include the official website of the record company, Taobao, JD.com, and YY. If you want to buy a modern new version, you can actually go to some vinyl flagship stores to buy it, but if you want to buy a classic retro vinyl from the last century, one is a platform like YY, and the other is an old offline store.

What are rips and first editions?
First of all, I have to say that as long as the rips are officially released, they are all genuine. This means that they must be officially authorized. Rip refers to obtaining copyright through official channels, re-recording the master tape on the basis of a new record company and making a new vinyl record. The first edition refers to the master tape version recorded at the time of release. The difference between rips and first editions is actually still very large. The original version is closer to that era, more authentic, and more expensive. 0 reply

Tips for getting started! How much "noise" does vinyl have❓| 02
1. Popping: When the intensity of the sound waves on the record exceeds the range that the record player, amplifier and other equipment can withstand, a noise similar to the explosion sound will be produced, which is called popping.
2. Crackling: When there are scratches, wear and tear on the record, the needle will make a sound similar to the jumping of electric sparks when it sweeps over these grooves, which is called crackling.
3. Detuning: When the record player speed is unstable, the needle is damaged or abnormal, etc., it will cause the notes on the record to change pitch or skip certain parts, which is called detuning. 0 reply
