In many ways, the current state of the Democratic Party reminds me of the classical music industry, which I’m quite familiar with as a professional conductor. Both have resisted significant change due to the preferences of geriatric insiders. Both have exhibited a peculiar obsession with identity politics that now dominates their agenda to the point of alienating many people. Both hold themselves in irrationally high esteem despite increasing operational sclerosis and cultural irrelevance. Both are manifestations of “champagne socialism,” wherein elites cosplay as progressives through participation in liberal rituals, while in reality eschewing any change that would court lower classes. And on the current trajectory, both are headed towards decline, defeat, and the dustbin of history.

The problem with this is that Trump just keeps getting more and more popular.
