Ya probably because the alternator wasn’t charging it properly due to itself starting to go bad. Usually you can give the alternator a couple love taps with a wrench to get it going again.

That battery's been going for a long time. Honestly I'm not much of a car guy, didn't even own one till my mid-thirties so your guess is as good as mine
